Donor Richard T.’s wife, Joyce, was a gifted physician at the MGH – and, after a diagnosis of ovarian cancer, she became a patient at the hospital, as well.

Joyce died in 2003. Despite the deep sorrow surrounding her passing, her husband was buoyed by an unexpected gift: “Before her death, the leadership of the Department of Psychiatry approached us about establishing an Award Fund in Joyce’s name,” he remembers. “What an honor - one I will never forget.”

Today, Richard remains an active member of the MGH community. “I feel only goodwill toward the MGH and the numerous areas of the hospital Joyce and I encountered throughout her medical career and care as a patient,” he remarks. “My plan is to support the Mass General for as long as I can.”
